Professor Mercedes Aráoz Senior Advisor
A Senior Advisor at Brennan & Partners, Professor Mercedes Aráoz is currently Principal Professor at the Economics Faculty of the Universidad del Pacifico, Peru, amongst other domestic and international roles.
Professor Aráoz served as the Acting President and Prime Minister of Peru from 2017 to 2018. In 2016, she was elected as the Vice President of Peru and as a Congresswoman of the Republic. In her earlier career, Aráoz was Minister of Economy and Finance from 2009 to 2010, prior to which she served as the Minister of Production in 2009 and, between 2006 and 2009, as Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism.
Aráoz was also Executive Director of the National Competitiveness Council and also served as Representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in Mexico from 2012 to 2015 and with the United Nations Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) lead group from 2018 to 2020.
Aráoz is an economist, having graduated from Universidad del Pacifico, with a master’s degree and having additionally undertaken doctoral studies at the University of Miami.
